"Jolly Boating Weather"

A chance for a trip on a real steam launch from Bourne End.
Not my boat.....but a trip not to be missed,
.

During 2009, it is intended that 'Alaska' will be running public trips from Bourne End Marina on the May and August Bank Holiday weekends (23rd, 24th, 25th May and 29th, 30th, 31st August) and at the Thames Traditional Boat Rally at Henley (18th and 19th July)
Bourne End trips start at 11am and run on the hour until the last trip of the day at 5pm. Trips last approximately 50 minutes and cost £10 for adults and £6 for children and OAP's.

Now that looks relaxing.

How did they end up with the name from waayyyyy over here?

It is, Ded. I can vouch for that.
Sadly most of the Thames steamers have long gone. They were mainly named after places on the Thames. like "Windsor Castle" so I expect this steamer originally came from somewhere else. I have no idea how it got its name.
Cheers.....Bernard

Bourne End, eh? Wasn't sure if it was just where you keep your boat or where you live. Will have a look on Google Earth.

Keep my boat?...Sorry can't afford a boat. My brother is into boats..has one in Wales on a river somewhere near Harlech.
My little pad does show up well on Google Earth but I don't think were're on Street View yet.
Do you know that if I fit one of these 'visitor' map thingies, it will tell me, everytime you land on my site, where your network provider is based????

I've just been on the restored steam yacht "Gondola" on Coniston Water in the Lake District. It was wonderful - really smooth and calm and quiet, and beautiful scenery too. Highly recommended.

Somewhere I have yet to get to.
It does sound nice but I am a great fan of Albert Wainwright and he was always complaining about the coaches and the crowds and....it sounds a bit off-putting. I suppose if you go out-of-season it is quieter but then you don't always get the best weather.
